The Harvest Moon rises (it's the September full moon), starting yellow, acscending to become a bright white orb in the sky, lighting the activities of our student zombies!
We have two Universities in York, so a celebration of Freshers Week antics seemed in order (just for fun!), featuring perennial favourite activities such wearing traffic cones, letting out the fun after a heavy night, and stacking beer cans (usually on accommodation window sills which then become an integral home decor feature we recall!).
Gallery Resident Artist Mark Braithwaite says he needed something to entertain himself whilst working in the studio on his City Shadows project over the winter.... he chose to amuse himself by painting zombies. When he brought the paintings and prints into the gallery we rather enjoyed the results!
Following on from the success of his 'Zombie Apocalypse' series, Mark has expanded the range to create the 'From the Shadows' collection, of other supernatural beings and mystical happenings. York is the most haunted city in Europe after all, so he's not short of inspiration!
Mark tells us "This is the latest in my fun series of ghostly illustrations, 'From the Shadows' painted in watercolour and mixed media. In the sky I have used Schminke Horadam Supergranulation watercolours which made the unusual skies happen!"
There are now lots of images in Mark’s From the Shadows series - why not take a look at the entire collection as there's a multi buy offer!
Each image is printed as a giclée on watercolour paper, image size approximately 17x17cm, and presented in an antique white 30x30cm mount; a larger 40x40cm size is available presented in a black mount.
These mounts will fit into a metric standard size frames - take a look at our framing section for ideas.
