Another of Sam's delightful quirky images of Ernest Hemingway Mustard with his good lady wife, Violet, and their trusty companion Doris the Jack Russell. Ernest and Violet are having a cuddle under the leaves of Autumn; do you think Doris is feeling a bit left out? I'm sure she will be included in the group hug very soon!
Limited to 95 fine art limited edition prints + 10 artist proofs, each of the APs has been remarqued by Sam with a little original sketch.
The Braithwaite Gallery has been lucky enough to get two of the remarqued editions - these are obviously really special so we are thrilled to be able to have them in the Gallery.
A new format from Sam released in Summer 2022, each image is floated and framed without glazing.
Printed on 400gsm fine art canvas, each print is bonded to 3.5mm board and varnished. This is called block mounting. The print is then block mounted onto a canvas panel featuring the title, artist's signature and edition number.
The print is then framed in a 4cm x 4cm square profile moudling with a whitewashed oak effect. As the canvas is varnished, this print is not glazed. Supplied strung and ready to hang, with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Image size approximately 700x495mm
Frame dimensions approximately 905x675mm
About the artist
"I have always considered myself to be someone who draws rather than paints. I rarely use sketchbooks now. I prefer to just start drawing on a piece of board with soft pencils, adding colour with oil pastels, and layering with washes of coloured inks. I listen to radio 4 as I work and often get ideas from half listening to some interview or other. Often I will come up with an idea whilst walking the dogs. Or perhaps take inspiration from a line in a favourite tune. I decide on the colours as I go, scraping back some areas, scratching into others, adding words, lines or splatters from a toothbrush if things get desperate... My goal is to achieve something in a finished piece that looks spontaneous, fresh, unselfconscious. It's harder than it looks. The best ideas take the least work, and it's so easy to spoil a piece with overworking. It's like, one of the hardest looks to achieve is the 'no makeup, just got out of bed ' look... It just takes ages to look that 'underdone'... And as we all know, there's a fine line between effortlessly gorgeous and a bit of a mess! I guess if I have a skill as an artist, it's knowing when to stop."
