The Shambles at Twilight by YorkArtist's resident artist Mark Braithwaite
Following the sell out success of Mark's classic daytime print of The Shambles, the artist has produced this stunning view of York's most famous street, captured in the striking colours of twilight.
A crescent moon rises, resplendent against the mauve, indigo and violet colours of the evening skies overhead. Lamplight from Little Shambles casts shadows across the street, empty apart from Lucy, M.J. Braithwaite's black cat.
The Shambles is one of the best preserved medieval streets in the world; this narrow lane with its overhanging buildings has to be the most picturesque streets in the city of York. According to legend, you can shake hands with your neighbour from the uppermost windows across the narrowest part of the street!
Originally the street of butchers, many shops still have their old meat hooks outside, although there hasn't been a butcher on the Shambles in decades.
Printed using the giclée technique on art card, available mounted in black or antique white, with outer dimensions of 400x500mm. Also available framed in our popular small linear black frame.
Please note, this picture is framed 'on demand' in our workshop - orders will be framed, ready to ship or to collect after a couple of days. We can ship glazed items within the UK only.
The original picture was painted in oil on canvas in 2024.
