Tea Break at the Lakes, a framed limited edition giclee print on paper from artist Sam Toft.
Ernest and Violet Hemingway Mustard have stopped for a rest on their caravanning trip - Doris was feeling a bit peckish. Out comes the favourite spotty and stripy china; aaah, a nice cuppa with a view. Time to relax and enjoy.
Sam’s characters, ‘The Mustards’ have a legion of loyal fans. She has described herself as their Official Picture Maker and Story Teller for the past 20 years. They are her imaginary friends, helping her make sense of a world that sometimes seems stranger than fiction; never more so than current times.
Ernest and his dear lady wife Violet live in a not-so damp basement flat on the Brighton Hove border, with Doris, their grumpy and rather portly Jack Russell Terrier, and an ever increasing menagerie of eccentric pets. They inhabit a seaside world of faded ice cream colours where the breeze is always blowing and life is utterly delicious.
We are thrilled to offer for sale a beautiful collection of long sold out Sam Toft limited editions. The current owner purchased most of her collection from Nan Mustard (Sam’s Mum) at Mustardshop, so there are some really special pieces.
A recent move to Yorkshire has meant there now isn’t enough wall space for this stunning collection, so the owner is reluctantly selling, wanting to re-home the pictures somewhere they will be appreciated and loved. Where better to bring them than The Braithwaite Gallery in York, northern home of all things Tofty for more than two decades, and Sam’s biggest fans!
The limited editions are all framed in the same distressed champagne colour moulding, with non-reflective glass, and were framed by The Framing Centre in Fareham.
