Perched proudly atop a tiny hill sit two cheerful houses, home to two sets of the dearest friends. Every summer evening, they gather beneath their shared giant tree, picnicking, gossiping, and soaking up the charm of their cosy little hamlet. As dusk settles, the laughter fades and the friends retreat indoors, where they're soon snoring softly in their beds, wrapped in the quiet comfort of a life well-loved.
Artist Gary Walton, a good friend of the gallery, has been a huge supporter of our fundraising efforts in aid of PAPYRUS and has once again come up trumps with another stunning original artwork.
'The Happy Neighbours' is a Gary Walton mixed media original. This piece comes mounted, approximate dimensions: outer dimensions - 510mm x 350mm, image dimensions - 300mm x 150mm.
We are raffling this painting for our Summer 2025 charity fundraiser, in aid of PAPYRUS, a charity focused on the prevention of young suicide, in memory of Jake, son of gallery owners Anne and Mark - lost to suicide aged just 20.
The winning ticket will be selected at random on 31st August 2025. A nice end to the summer holidays for one lucky customer!
Gary has also sent us some miniature originals which we are selling with all money raised being donated to charity PAPYRUS - take a look at Pierfolk, The Camper's Calling, Moonlight Meeting, Saltwater Bay and Hilltop Haven and see which is your favourite!
Both Gary and ourselves at the Braithwaite Gallery want to show our support and admiration for PAPYRUS and everything they do for young people in need.
We can ship the mounted artwork worldwide.
TICKETS can be bought online or by phone in blocks of 5 for £10, or in person at the gallery for £2 each.
nb You will be assigned a ticket number/ block of 5 numbers. You will receive an email to confirm receipt however we will not be posting physical tickets.
BBC Radio York and the local media have been great supporters of our fundraising efforts - Gallery Director Anne is regularly invited to speak on Bec Homer's morning show on BBC Radio York.
PAPYRUS is a charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide in young people. Just £7 can help provide a lifesaving phone call to someone in need.
All funds raised from the raffle of this artwork will be donated to PAPYRUS via our JustGiving page. We are thrilled to have raised over £12,500 for this worthwhile cause in 2023-25, and hope to do more to help PAPYRUS save young lives over the coming year. Previous fundraisers for mental health charity Mind raised £5825. Huge thanks to everyone involved.
PAPYRUS tells us: "Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 35 in the UK. We believe many young suicides can be prevented. Through fundraising you are raising vital awareness of PAPYRUS and spreading our message of hope."
