Silent Night- The Shambles: Wraparound Canvas
from the atmospheric Silent Night Collection
by Mark Braithwaite
The Shambles is one of the best preserved medieval streets in the world; this narrow street with its overhanging buildings has to be the most picturesque street in the city of York. According to popular culture, you can shake hands with your neighbour from the uppermost windows across the narrowest part of the street - you’d need very long arms though!
Originally the street of butchers, many shops still have their old meat hooks outside, although there hasn't been a butcher on the Shambles in a long time.
The original picture was painted in oil on canvas.

Wraparound Canvas from Mark's atmospheric Silent Night collection
Mark applies several coats of giclee varnish to each canvas print, so the stretched canvas is ready to hang - it does not need glazing.
The image extends around the edge of the canvas so it can be displayed without further framing, for a contemporary finish.
We also have the stretched canvas framed, in a wide distressed black frame with a bronze inner slip, if you prefer a more traditional presentation.
The stretched canvas be only be shipped via a fragile courier service, or collected from the Gallery in York.
Prints on paper in several sizes are also available - these are listed separately.
