ORIGINAL Bill Tolley Painting, By the Light of the Campfire SECONDARY MARKET (NW)

Price:
Sale price£4,950.00 GBP

Description

'By the light of the Campfire' shares more of beloved Bill Tolley's unmistakable style, inviting you into the heart of a quiet village as nighttime settles in. The tightly packed houses, rich in texture and detail, stand tall, mindful not to encroach too much onto their neighbour - a beautiful expanse of lush greenery that stretches out below.

But what's this?

Tonight must be a very special occasion for the village people, as a colourful campfire bursts to life in the centre of their vast field. The light of the flames reach out like a beacon, luring the villages towards from each and every house by its wondrous colour that cuts through the quiet, grey expanse of the night.

The original painting has just arrived at the gallery, selling on behalf of a private collector who no longer has the wall space for the artwork.

The original is painted in acrylic on canvas, in Bill's instantly recognisable textured style.

The picture is signed 'Tolley' on the front.

While the origins of the framing remain a mystery, we estimate this captivating piece was created approximately 15 years ago. Condition is very good - as with all secondary market artwork, this is not new , and therefore is sold as seen.

The canvas size is typical for Bill's work, with an approximate canvas size of 30x36"  framed in a light oak coloured timber frame with a linen effect inner slip  as shown. External frame dimensions are approximately

If you can get to York city centre, please do come to view the painting in person. Bill's paintings are fabulous in real life - a photo never does his artwork justice.

This is a large painting, so if you are thinking about getting the painting delivered, please ask us to check that you are in an area our couriers can cover.

As Tolley fans will be aware, Bill sadly passed away in 2011, and his work is very rarely offered for sale.

Here at The Braithwaite Gallery, Bill's work has provided us, and our customers, with much joy in art form, for almost 20 years; we initially discovered his work through publishing house Solomon & Whitehead, who published Bill's first limited editions of his stylised little houses, at the same time as they were publishing the figurative work of our own Mark Braithwaite.

Over the years since, we have handled the sale of many of Bill's original paintings, and watched in awe as they have climbed in price. You will be interested to hear that when we sell one of Bill's paintings on the secondary market, a percentage of the sale goes back to the artist's estate, via the Artist's Resale Right Scheme, handled by the Design & Copyright Society. It seems fitting that his family should continue to benefit from the sale of his beautiful work.
