From the Shadows; Mars Attacks! ... by Mark Braithwaite
Baa-mageddon strikes!
Special thanks to the artist's daughter for the idea behind this fun painting.
Inspired by 1950s sci-fi, Mark has painted an invasion of spaceships, arriving over the hills, beneath a stunning orange sky. The little green men are beaming up a flock of sheep. Whatever for?! The farmer and his dog are trying to scare off the Martian invaders - it doest look like they're having much success!
Keeping it topical, one of the spaceships is being powered by a spy balloon.... or perhaps it's a weather balloon? I don't think there's much to investigate here!
Following on from the success of his 'Zombie Apocalypse' series, Gallery Resident Artist Mark Braithwaite has expanded the range to create the 'From the Shadows' collection, of other supernatural beings and mystical happenings. York is the most haunted city in Europe after all, so he's not short of inspiration!
Mark tells us "This is the latest in my fun series of spooky illustrations, 'From the Shadows' painted in watercolour and mixed media. In the sky I have used Schminke Horadam Supergranulation watercolours which made the unusual skies happen, and Opal paint, which create an iridescent effect."
There are now lots of images in Mark’s From the Shadows series - why not take a look at the entire collection as there's a multi buy offer!
Each image is printed as a giclée on watercolour paper, image size approximately 17x17cm, and presented in an antique white 30x30cm mount; a larger 40x40cm size is available presented in a black mount.
These mounts will fit into a metric standard size frames - take a look at our framing section for ideas.
